Title : Creating and using ontologies in a big data world

Abstract : Ontologies have been a promising resource for computing since at least 1993, when they appeared in the form of off-the-shelf, richly axiomatized logical theories. Nowadays they seem to have maintained that promise, but their representation, accessibility, design methods, and reusability have changed substantially in 20 years, so much that currently we cannot talk of ontologies without considering (big) data, legacy applications, natural language processing, inductive reasoning, crowdsourcing, and cognitive science. If this scenario is taken into account, ontologies become a holy grail for data scientists. Is this grail going to be in the hands of open source developers, big corporations, or the casual user of data?
During this talk, I will provide some historical references, and a description of the current scenario, putting technical details into context.

Title : Bridging the gap between DataMining and decision-making : Intelligent Decision              Support Systems

Abstract : New technologies made possible to get information of many different types from both organizations and any kind of process or phenomenon, what resulted in the emmergent Big Data phenomenon. Currently, availability of data is not any more a limitation to understand reality. However, exploitation of available data is still precarious in many contexts, for several reasons. Even in the cases where intensive data mining is possible and rich knowledge is extracted from data, it is still difficult to guarantee a direct impact of data mining to effective decision-making levels. Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS) provide a framework to conduct the flow between data recording, proper data - exploitation, contextualization of data mining results, interpretation - support and results communication to stakeholders in such a way that decision - making can be really supported by objective information obtained from data in a fluent cycle. Multi-perspective analysis and integral approach are required in most of the cases, to get reliable knowledge for supporting real decisions. In the session,  characteristics of IDSS will be presented and different architectures and approaches discussed. Some real applications will be introduced for a better understanding.
